Stock the Bar

Our friends, Katie and Wes are getting married in a few months. This weekend Jay and I, along with three other couples, hosted a stock the bar party for them. It was held at the clubhouse in one of the couples' club house in Dallas, GA.

This was taken before the party started.

...and so was this.

The food table as we were setting up.

The patio was so beautiful.

All of the food was really outstanding.

I really want all of the recipes, including this one.

Your eyes aren't deceiving you. Katie has a twin sister.

This Rollercoaster Week

This has been such a good and such a bad week. I spent some time at my parents' house, which was stress relieving. But then also had to deal with a job hunting situation. It has been a total rollercoaster. I had an awesome opportunity, then it went away, then it was back, and now it has gone away again. It was a really good opportunity for corporate growth, great benefits, great culture, great location, it was exactly what I wanted. This week I was elated, then really sad, then happy, and then sad again. I can only pray and put it in the hands of God that the right career happens for me. Preferably with the specific job I wanted. Any other prayers would be appreciated.

On another note, I'm happy that Jay is home from Austin, TX. It's nice to have him here to bounce my feelings off of. He has had a really busy week as well, traveling to Texas for a conference and back. One canceled flight yesterday, jet lag due to coming home late last night and he collected himself & headed right back into work this morning. I'm always amazed at how well he handles his busy schedule.

When I was up in TN, my dad wanted a picture of himself in his suit for some business publications. He retired and started his own business after thirty years at a large corporation, his last position as the President. Needless to say, there was a lot of stress involved in his position. He was retired at home for about 2 weeks before realizing that "retiring" wasn't an option for him - he had too much energy. So he took the CFP exam for Certified Financial Planners (most people get financial degrees before taking this), set the curve on the test, and started a business. He opened an office in their town and now sees quite a few clients for financial planning and taxes.

I took my camera out to get his suit picture for his business, took about three shots and he said, "Ok, are we done now?"

Not exactly super patient for pictures. It took him longer to put on the suit. (Getting dressed took him all of 10 minutes.)

I put my finger on the button and he did this:

He cracks me up. If you know my dad, you know that in the past he was always a pretty serious person. He always had to be. Over the past five or seven years, he has changed a lot. He has lightened up and started enjoying what he has worked so hard for in his life - retirement and living.

And one of the posed pictures of dad.

I'm probably heading back up in a few weeks, so maybe we can finish our picture-taking then.

Day with the Fam

Yesterday was a good day. I went to my parents house to visit with my side of the family. My four year old nephew came to visit.

When I got there in the morning, we tried to take a picture. He just wasn't in the mood.

From Parent's House
So we went back inside and had breakfast, then played pool.

Then grandma read books.

We went outside next. We rode bikes, played in the yard and ran around by the river. He started with the little bike until we said he was to old for it and needed his big boy bike.

This is my aunt with my babies.

Then, off to the river (the backyard)!

I'm not sure what this game was.

My dad said that he threw a stick and she came back with a tree.

Haley and he had a tug of war over the tree. He won.

He took a moment in the leaves.

He's such a boy!

Then grandpa chilled with him for a minute during the Olympics Curling event. Grandpa is trying to get him into sports. Austin said that he's going to do that when he grows up.

Then great Auntie snuggled with him while he watched Tom and Jerry.

He was really into this Tom & Jerry episode. Everything out of his mouth was the question "why?" Nothing in between, just "why?"

Then, back outside. First we played on the slide.

We went back to the river again. Boys!

He threw sticks into the river and laughed every time the dogs got in trouble for getting close to the water.

He told grandpa to stay right there, then come and find him after grandpa counts to ten.

We had dinner, then he went home to my sister's house. I'm EXHAUSTED too.

Cute Girly Gift Ideas

I love anything handmade. I'm not particularly skilled, or I guess patient enough to sew. But I like the idea of someone putting their precious time into creating something.

I think that sometimes the best gifts are also handmade. Click the pictures for the link to the Etsy page.

For the Starbucks coffee drinker, $15:

For coffee at home, $15:

For the tea drinker, $15:

I also love the idea of pretty camera strap covers, like this one for $22.99.

Or this one for $17.99

I could use this laptop sleeve even though it's a little pricey at $54.

Or this phone case for $29
