This has been such a good and such a bad week. I spent some time at my parents' house, which was stress relieving. But then also had to deal with a job hunting situation. It has been a total rollercoaster. I had an awesome opportunity, then it went away, then it was back, and now it has gone away again. It was a really good opportunity for corporate growth, great benefits, great culture, great location, it was exactly what I wanted. This week I was elated, then really sad, then happy, and then sad again. I can only pray and put it in the hands of God that the right career happens for me. Preferably with the specific job I wanted. Any other prayers would be appreciated.
On another note, I'm happy that Jay is home from Austin, TX. It's nice to have him here to bounce my feelings off of. He has had a really busy week as well, traveling to Texas for a conference and back. One canceled flight yesterday, jet lag due to coming home late last night and he collected himself & headed right back into work this morning. I'm always amazed at how well he handles his busy schedule.
When I was up in TN, my dad wanted a picture of himself in his suit for some business publications. He retired and started his own business after thirty years at a large corporation, his last position as the President. Needless to say, there was a lot of stress involved in his position. He was retired at home for about 2 weeks before realizing that "retiring" wasn't an option for him - he had too much energy. So he took the CFP exam for Certified Financial Planners (most people get financial degrees before taking this), set the curve on the test, and started a business. He opened an office in their town and now sees quite a few clients for financial planning and taxes.
I took my camera out to get his suit picture for his business, took about three shots and he said, "Ok, are we done now?"
Not exactly super patient for pictures. It took him longer to put on the suit. (Getting dressed took him all of 10 minutes.)
I put my finger on the button and he did this:
He cracks me up. If you know my dad, you know that in the past he was always a pretty serious person. He always had to be. Over the past five or seven years, he has changed a lot. He has lightened up and started enjoying what he has worked so hard for in his life - retirement and
living.
And one of the posed pictures of dad.
I'm probably heading back up in a few weeks, so maybe we can finish our picture-taking then.
