I really can't stay
My parents called two weeks ago and said "You guys have worked really hard this year. You put yourself through school and Jay has worked really hard to support you guys for the last two years. We'd like to do something nice for you - how about a trip? We'll come to your house and take care of the dogs so you have nothing to worry about."
That's all it took. A few vacation web sites and travel agents later, we were scheduled to leave for Cabo in three days....and we ended up going on vacation from Tuesday December 22nd through Tuesday December 29th. The whole trip was amazing. The weather was in the 60's to 80's, the water was warm and the people were friendly. I have to admit, there was a glimmer of sadness Christmas morning when we thought about not spending the day with our families. It went away quickly when we thought about the true blessing we received by being able to relax together for the first time in a long time.
We were amazed at how beautiful the weather and views were at our resort (Villa del Arco).
This was "our" spot we claimed each morning. We didn't mind sitting on our chairs in our clothes and watching the sunrise, even though it was breezy and cold in the 60's.
We originally had reservations at Ruth's Chris steakhouse for our Christmas dinner, but then reconsidered. We made our reservation at the open air restaurant on the ocean at our resort.
Breakfast the next morning.
One difference between Mexico and the south is that the sand felt like it was made purely of seashells.
One part of Mexico that we didn't care for was the vendors. They were everywhere, every time of day, always begging for money. They stopped at nothing to get our attention, calling out to us, whistling, telling us that they need our money because their economy is down. Join the club, guys.
All in all it was a great trip. After the week in the sun, we are grateful to be home safe and sound.
